Landscape Design
The design begins with a meeting, where you and I together will talk about different topics, favorite activities, favorite colors, favorite season, how do you currently use the yard, how do you want to use the yard, etc ... These questions will help me to create an ideal, pleasant, and comfortable environment for you. This is the most fundamental part because the client and the designer can acquire the knowledge to work together.
Imagine if the designer designed a garden without an initial interview with the client? It would be a complete disaster. How could the designer create something pleasant without knowing the client's tastes in the slightest?
Once the design process has begun, I can help you prioritize your wishes and guide you to the best options to get the most out of your money. The biggest return on investment is in creating functional spaces like patios, terraces, and outdoor kitchens. Even if the landscape of your dreams doesn't quite fit your budget, a well-designed plan can be built gradually in steps over the years.
When creating your landscape design, I take into great consideration how the site works and what materials will be best for your site and your style, with the knowledge and skills needed to make sure the pieces come together.
Choosing which plants to place requires knowledge of plant material, consideration of exposure and soil conditions, as well as the amount of time (and money) the homeowner wants to spend maintaining the garden. It is vital to have extensive knowledge and experience of plants to create floors that flow and look beautiful with interest throughout the seasons.
Once the landscape design is complete, the next step is to select the best contractor to install the new landscape. Getting the most out of your investment depends on your landscape being well constructed by talented craftsmen.
I work with the contractor and homeowner throughout the entire process to make sure the plan is executed accurately and with the homeowner's goals in mind. My role in the construction process is to supervise the construction, evaluate and approve each stage of the construction process.
The landscaping enveloping your home serves myriad purposes, from enhancing curb appeal to fostering outdoor entertainment and bonding moments with family and friends. Transforming a once-neglected outdoor space not only elevates your quality of life but, when meticulously planned, can also yield a substantial return on investment when it comes to the resale value of your home.
A Clemson University study found that landscaping can result in a return on investment of more than 100%. They claim that “Homeowners wanting to increase the value of their property will do well to consider the cost-effective, return potential of quality landscaping, and to safeguard their investments by hiring licensed, landscape professionals, to perform the work.” This study also found that consumers value a landscaped home up to 11.3% more than its base price.
According to the American Nursery & Landscape Association, an enhanced landscape can increase a homeowner's property value by 7% to 14%. The association's study also revealed that such improvements significantly help speed up the sale of a home.
The role of the Landscape Designer is to observe, study and experience nature as a whole and draw the perceived emotions and sensations on paper, and then transmit them to the customers in the design of their gardens.
Design is a long and elaborate work of thought, the key to success is being able to convey these immense emotions and sensations to those who will use the garden.
The guidance of a landscape architect or designer can help you ensure that the investment you make is wise, regardless of the money invested.
The first step is to evaluate your landscape as it currently is and decide which things you like and which you don't like, and which elements you would like to add or possibly removed.
Step by Step Process
The design process begins with the initial consultation. Landscape designer meets you, the client, to hear and understand your vision, expectations, and needs better and works as a consultant to help you discover the options and possibilities available.
The designer will walk on your property takes photos and identify existing assets on the property, as well as any potential liabilities or problem areas that need to be addressed. He will draw up a proposal for design services, an initial sketch to give an idea of the future design and meet you again.
A copy of the plot plan will be requested. If not available, the landscape designer will complement a site survey, which identifies existing structures and other elements of our site visit on paper will plot the house and boundaries, including existing good and bad characteristics which may remain unchanged. It could be mature trees, telephone poles, overhead cables, oil tanks or hedges, etc ... Buildings (widths and heights), heights of things (shrubs/trees, etc.), and more distant elements such as the fences.
He will measure existing trees and slopes, noting elevation changes that will indicate how to make your space accessible and functional within your needs, local ordinances, and, of course, aesthetics for years to come. All these measurements are related to each other so that we can make appropriate decisions and suggestions on what to keep, add, renovate or remove from your garden project.
From the analysis of the site and the plot plan, a MASTER landscape PLAN will be created, three-dimensional colored sketches, 3D Image Rendering, and a 3D Walk-in video.
The landscaper will meet with you on-site with the Master landscaping plan and material samples. Full details of the plan will be reviewed along with material options. Reviews are made at that time and a final plan will be agreed upon.
Your agreement will be written with exact material choices, installation specifications, order of operations, and an installation timeline and payment schedule.
